Rutland area middle school students invited to enter American history essay contest

To all students of grades 5-8 in the Rutland area, Ann Story Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, invites you to participate in the 2020-2021 American history essay contest, “The Boston Massacre.”

March 5, 2020 marked the 250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre, considered to be a pivotal event that paved the way to the American Revolution. Imagine you are living in Boston and, after witnessing the event of March 5, describe your family’s discussion about the Boston Massacre and what role it played in organizing the colonists against the British king and Parliament.

All participants will receive an official DAR certificate for their participation. The winner of each grade level will receive an official winner certificate and DAR medal along with a small monetary cash prize.

Winning entries at the Chapter level will be sent along to the State level for further judging and possible awards that can go on to Division and the National level in Washington DC.

Deadline for submissions is Dec. 30. Contact Cheryl Gosselin at Goss64@comcast.net or 802-265-8177 for more information regarding deadline and contest rules.
