Pied for charity

KILLINGTON — The second annual Pie In The Face Challenge fundraiser for Phelan-McDermid Syndrome took place at Mogul Sports Pub in Killington, Sunday, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. Local “celebrities,” including Killington and Pico Resort president Mike Solimano and other resort personnel, as well as business leaders, donated their time and faces to get pied for charity.

“We raised $3,000 and words can’t describe how great it was,” said organizer Dave Hoffenberg. Last year the event raised $1,200.

Participants paid $22 to pie two people in the face. The number was chosen because the disease is a deletion of chromosome 22. The disease is incredibly rare with only 1,000 children in the world diagnosed. One of them, however, is Rutland residents Rick and Annie Keuhl’s son, Chase, who was diagnosed with P-MS in January of 2012.
