PHS presents 19th century schoolhouse program

Sunday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m.—WEST PAWLET—The Pawlett Historical Society will host a presentation entitled “19th Century Tablets—Schoolhouse Slates” on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. This program is free and open to the public, and will be held at the Braintree School on VT-153 in West Pawlet. Refreshments will be provided.
Dale and Joan Prouty will present the program on America’s early school slate industry which began right in the Slate Valley of West Pawlet. The presentation will include many examples of the creative slate improvements designed and marketed to the needs of schools and young scholars in the years from the mid-19th century through the mid-20th century.
