Paramount screens free broadcast of “Handel’s Messiah” Saturday before Easter

Saturday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. — RUTLAND — To help celebrate Easter the Rutland area congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a free performance of “Handel’s Messiah” by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra that includes four soloists from the Metropolitan Opera, at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m.

This event, which is free of charge and open to the public, is a rebroadcast of performances being held March 24 and March 25 from Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank.

“Handel’s Messiah,” first performed in 1742, is a classic musical celebration of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Proceeds from the first performance were donated to the sick and needy.
