KES student wins Arbor Day art contest

By Robin Alberti

Evan Joaquin, a sixth grader from Killington Elementary School, is the winner of the 2016 Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program’s Growing Works of Art Contest.

This year, the Growing Works of Art contest theme was Healthy Trees, Healthy Communities.  Participating students wrote three to five sentences describing the benefits they, or their community enjoy from their chosen tree, and created a poster (or other form of art) illustrating the beauty of their chosen tree.

As the sixth grade winner, Evan received a $50 Visa gift card, a Vermont State Parks punch pass ($30 value) and some cool tree-related swag.

He will appear on WCAX TV’s Home and Farm Show Across the Fence, which will air at 12:10 p.m. this Thursday, April 28. Congratulations Evan!
