Heat exhaustion leads to crash

ROCHESTER — On Monday, July 18 at  4:34 p.m., the Vermont State Police were notified by a 911 call of a motor vehicle crash on Route 73 in the town of Rochester. Initial reports indicated that the operator of the vehicle, Michael Goodwin, age 38 from North Clarendon, was injured. White River Valley Ambulance and Rochester Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.

Initial police investigation determined that Goodwin’s 2008 Dodge Sprinter work van was traveling west on Route 73 when Goodwin lost consciousness and went off the road, rolling over on to the left side in a ditch.

Goodwin had been experiencing heat related stress as a result of working in high temperatures prior to the crash and was transported to Gifford Medical Center, police reported. The vehicle was located off the south side of the roadway and was removed by a wrecker. There was moderate contact damage to the vehicle.
