Gain balance to reduce risk of falls

Thursday, May 7 at 9:30 a.m. — CASTLETON — Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. “A Matter of Balance” is a free eight-week program that is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.

Classes will be held Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21 and 28 and June 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Castleton Community Center on 2108 Main Street, Castleton.

During the class, participants learn to: view falls as controllable; set goals for increasing activity;

make changes to reduce fall risk at home; exercise to increase strength and balance.

Classes are free and open to the public but pre-registration is required at 802-468-3093.
