Former Plymouth town clerk charged with embezzlement

PLYMOUTH — At the request of Plymouth Town Officials the Vermont State Police were requested to investigate several checks that had been written by the previous town clerk which were believed to be fraudulent. During there investigation it was found that Barbara Stone, age 57, now of Newport, N.H., had cashed several checks written to herself using the town’s account between April 2014 and January 2015 while she was the town clerk. The total of these checks come to approximately $20,000. Stone was cited to appear at the Windsor County Court on March 17, 2015, to answer to charges of embezzlement by a municipal official, which is a felony. The case is ongoing at this time.
