Finding silver linings

By Cassandra Tyndall

I have a friend who is good at finding silver linings. No matter the situation, the turbulence or the struggle, he’d actively look for a silver lining.

One time, driving in a car together, we had a disagreement about something. To break the mood, he pointed at a cloud in the sky and said, “See, silver linings.” At the time, it felt like a deflection or avoidance of the core issue and, not gonna lie, it really annoyed me! But the fact is, there are silver linings to be found if you’re willing to look for them.

If we are really honest with ourselves, many of life’s problems aren’t the problems themselves, but the way we think about those problems. Again, not to minimize the seriousness of our changing collective landscapes, but if we can just change our thoughts around them — even just a bit — we can feel so much better about things.

This week, the sky gives us a couple of pretty sweet silver linings. Even if this means you might have to gloss over any problems for a while, you might be glad you did. A fresh perspective may help you find the hope you’re looking for.
