CSJ weekly athletics roundup

RUTLAND — With the men’s and women’s basketball seasons coming to a close and spring sports just getting underway, it was a relatively slow week in sports for College of St. Joseph. However, the softball team was in action over the weekend in a double-header matchup against the Columbia Greene CC Twins. The Lady Saints were able to earn their first two victories of this young spring season and bring their overall record to 2-4. CSJ won in blowout fashion for both games. The first game finished with a final score of 6-1 and the second game ended 7-2. The Lady Saints gave up a total of 9 hits leading to only three earned runs in both games combined.

CSJ baseball will be traveling to The Apprentice School to take on the Builders this coming on Friday, March 18. They will also be playing MIT and Tufts to round out what looks to be an exciting weekend of baseball. CSJ is 1-1 so far this season against Apprentice. They lost in a tightly contested ball game in their first meeting 7-8 and then turned the tables with an impressive victory 9-3.

College of St. Joseph is also hosting a home run derby for 11 and 12-year-olds. One individual from each age group will advance to the competition at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association World Series, hosted by CSJ at East Field in Glens Falls, N.Y. this May. The winner of the competition at CSJ will be competing against winners from New York State.
