Classic Repertory Theater presents “Romeo and Juliet” at Chandler

Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m.—RANDOLPH—Chandler Center for the Arts is proud to present its first 2016-2017 daytime performance—“Romeo and Juliet.” Chandler invites families, school groups, and community members to this 10 a.m. show on Thursday, Oct. 6, on the Main Hall stage.  “Romeo and Juliet” is appropriate for middle and high school aged students. The show is presented and produced by the Massachusetts-based Classic Repertory Company.
Classic Repertory Company (CRC) is an educational outreach program, bringing live theatre and educational units year-round to schools, senior centers, universities, summer camps, and presenting organizations throughout New England. CRC creates theatrical experiences that are educational and artistically compelling. Each 90-minute performance is accompanied by comprehensive study guides, a pre-show introduction, and a post-show discussion with the actors.
“Romeo and Juliet” is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare’s most popular plays during his lifetime and, along with “Hamlet,” is one of his most frequently performed plays. Today, the title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers.
Chandler’s daytime performance series provides an opportunity for regional youth to gain exposure to high quality arts events at a very low cost. Often linking curriculum to the performances, schools venture to Chandler to enrich the students’ daily educational experiences.  These events at Chandler can be powerful life-changing experiences, inspiring children and teens to pursue the arts even further. Chandler also presents a series of After School Arts classes for those students who do wish to continue exploring different mediums and creative activities.
