Castleton University presents spring ensemble week

Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. — CASTLETON — Castleton University presents a week of performances by the University’s musical ensembles. Along with a series of concerts in the Casella Theater, the various ensembles will also go on tour to share their musical talents with audiences in upstate New York.

The series will kick off in Casella Theater on Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. with the University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Rob Roth, performing a collection of pieces composed by African-American jazz pianist and composer Mary Lou Williams.

Beginning on Wednesday April 20, the Jazz Ensemble, Collegiate Chorale and Chamber singers will go on a three-day tour to visit schools in upstate New York with stops in Amsterdam, Granville, Lake George, Whitehall and Fort Edwards with a final concert at Mayfield Presbyterian Church in Gloversville, N.Y. at 7:30 p.m. on April 22.

Returning to the Casella Theater, the Collegiate Chorale and Chamber Singers, directed by Sherrill Blodget ,will present a concert onSunday, April 24 at 3 p.m. featuring a wide variety of contemporary and traditional American music.

Rounding out the week of music is the University Wind Ensemble, directed by Paul Kafer, performing a concert of Latin-inspired compositions on Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in Casella Theater.

Tickets for the events in Casella are $10 for adults, $5 for Castleton faculty, staff, alumni, students, children and seniors and are available at the Fine Arts Center Box Office or at castleton.edu/tickets.
