Castleton alumni exhibit to be featured at Rutland City Hall

Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m. — RUTLAND —  In collaboration with Rutland Mayor Chris Louras, the Castleton Downtown Gallery has installed an Alumni Art Exhibit in Rutland City Hall available for viewing during regular business hours from March 16 to Aug. 28, with a reception scheduled for Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m.

Showcasing the work of alumni both past and present, the vibrant exhibit features pieces from 16 of the college’s alumni dating as far back as 1982 and up to Castleton’s most recent graduating class of 2014. Featured alumni include: Michael Kukla, ‘87; Kathleen Loomis, ‘89; Beth Miller, ‘82; Lynda Machain Harris, ‘92; Rachel Spitzer Firliet, ‘10; Whitney Ramage, ‘10; Todd Houston, ‘11; Charissa Ercolin, ‘12; Mariah Phillips, ‘12; Nicole Ruman, ‘12; Peter Franzoni, ‘12; Sarah Karczmarczyk, ‘13; Brandon Kennedy, ‘14; Jessica Perkins, ‘14; Mitch Francis, ‘14; Molly Hornbeck, ‘14.

“Castleton has a lot to offer people, and also has the potential to expand and do more things in the broader community,” said Director of Castleton Art Galleries Sarah Karczmarczyk, explaining the college’s growing expansions into the Rutland region.

Through the exhibit visitors have the opportunity to explore the variety of artwork included in the multi-artist display, which includes drawings, paintings, graphic design, and mixed media pieces.

A concept that originated from Rutland Mayor Chris Louras, he pictured a Castleton-related collaboration as the perfect addition to the City Hall walls. “I think Rutland is a great space to showcase Castleton’s artwork,” he said.

The mayor acknowledged the strong partnership between the college and the Rutland community, and predicts the relationship between the two will only continue to grow and prosper. “We have a very good symbiotic relationship with Castleton and their presence in Rutland, downtown especially, is critical to Rutland’s success,” Louras said. “Castleton adds to both the economic well-being of the community and vibrancy.”

Rutland City Hall is located on Strongs Avenue in Rutland and is open Monday through Friday with hours of operation from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
