I, “Champlain” Mike-Michel Messier have been a taxpayer/ratepayer and an active participant in Rutland Real Estate and Community for 40 years. I attended Rutland Elementary, MSJ, UVM (BS), St. Michael’s (MSA); CCV and Castleton. I have the intellect, skills, ability, desire, temperament, and work experience to be the next Rutland City Assessor.
I have likely learned from you, too. Thank you. My family through our investments; property rehabilitations and construction have contributed to enhancing and preserving the City’s grand list (property values) and our way of life in part by leading the charge to Save Combination Pond.
I have participated in the planning and building of residential, commercial and industrial real estate. I have diverse experiences that can be applied for the benefit of Rutland. I have been a senior financial executive for companies with more than $250 million in property, plant, equipment and revenue.
My parents (Gus, Ruth), two children (Matt, Morgan), wife (Melissa); g…gparents, cousins – Family and I have now been part of our regional community for more than 400 years. 16 generations of my extended family have helped map, record, settle, develop, build, farm and in part name Rutland, the Otter Creek and Lake Champlain. Three of my great…grandfathers were with Samuel de Champlain in our Family businesses. I look forward to continuing our community involvement and contributions by seeing, listening, talking and working with you all soon.
I have volunteered in the treasuries
of the Rutland Historical Society, Town Recreation Department and the Kiwanis Club of Rutland. Contributed to our educational system by teaching the Junior Achievement program at Rutland High School. I have coached ice hockey, baseball and football.
Thank you for your time and consideration in voting for me as City Assessor.
