BarnArts celebrates 10 years of Summer Youth Theater with “Fiddler”

Friday, Aug. 6-Sunday, Aug. 8—BARNARD—BarnArts presents “Fiddler on the Roof” this weekend at the Barnard Town Hall. This is the 10th celebration year of BarnArts Summer Youth Theater program, which teaches music theater to 30 youth over a 3-week program each summer. As part of the celebration, BarnArts will be performing the full script instead of a modified jr version. “Fiddler on the Roof” will be at the Barnard Town Hall on Friday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15, $8 for ages 12 and under. Performances include original costuming, set, choreography and a live band. Windows and doors will be open for ventilation, and masks are required in the audience.

BarnArts Summer Youth Theater emphasizes the power of ensemble in theater and is open to all ages of kids ready to learn performance, although slots are limited to approximately 30 kids and returning kids are given priority in registration. Ages range from 7 to 17. “Parents contact me to confirm dates months before we open registration as many families organize their summers around our camp,” said the program’s Artistic Director, Linda Treash. “It’s very special to have a program kids love and want to return to year after year, and it is a delight to see them grow up and change each year, evolving from young playful kids to thoughtful teens who support and guide the younger kids in the program. Our teens represent outstanding young adults, engaged in the issues and spirit of these complex times. We are especially excited to be celebrating our 10th anniversary!”
