$30,000 in grants available for Woodstock startups

Got a great business idea? Consider starting your business in Woodstock, suggests Start Up Woodstock, which is offering a chance to win a $30,000 incentive grant. The organizations mission is to attract new business to town.

“After having an open competition, we will award a grant of up to $30,000 to a successful applicant to assist in the establishment of a new innovative business,” the organization stated. “It is also possible that the judges determine that rather than one grant there will be awarded several lesser grants totaling $30,000.”

The funding of this project was made possible by $20,000 private donations, plus a $10,000 grant from the Woodstock Economic Development Commission.

Businesses must be based in Woodstock, and the judges will favor applications that include a comprehensive business plan, provide a needed product or service and provide well-paying jobs for the area, Start Up Woodstock explained.

There will be an initial round of presentations and then and a final round, which will be public. The individuals who have agreed to act as judges are all local residents who have substantial relevant business and community experience.

Initial applications are due by Friday, Dec. 9. Finalists will be decided shortly thereafter and final presentations and decisions will be made on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023.
