Up to $1,000 in rebates help customers reduce carbon with efficient, clean heating
Green Mountain Power (GMP) launched extra rebates on heat pumps for low- and moderate-income customers today to make it easier for more Vermonters to cut carbon and increase comfort. GMP is adding to the success of its $400 rebate for each heat pump condenser a customer installs with new, extra rebates for low- and moderate-income customers, for total savings up to $1,000 per condenser.
“Many customers are already enjoying the benefits of using heat pumps, and we’re pleased to make these significant discounts available to help more people switch to clean, efficient heating and cooling for their homes and businesses,” said Kristin Carlson, GMP vice president and chief energy services executive. “Heating with fossil fuel is the second-largest source of carbon pollution in Vermont after driving, so more customers switching to electric-powered heat pumps will help cut carbon and help lower costs for all GMP customers at the same time.”
In 2020, GMP customers received more than 8,000 rebates for heat pumps, offsetting more than 300 million pounds of carbon, the equivalent of taking more than 29,000 fossil-fueled cars off the road for a year, while also helping to reduce costs for all GMP customers.
Fred Letourneau of Barre received a GMP rebate, and he calls his new heat pumps a good investment. “I’m so happy to have a new heating and cooling system that is efficient and simultaneously helps the planet. I’m thankful for all GMP is doing,” Letourneau said.
To qualify for the extra rebates, heat pump customers can review income eligibility guidelines available on GMP’s website. The new discounts are for purchases made on or after Feb. 10, 2021 through June 30, 2021. GMP already offers rebates for ductless heat pump systems, and is now expanding its rebates to include ducted heat pumps. Ducted heat pumps are another option for homes and businesses to switch to cleaner heating and cooling – they use pipes or vents to heat and cool multiple rooms and don’t use a head unit in the wall like ductless heat pumps.
Heat pump rebate amounts for customers:
$400 per condenser (outside unit)
Extra moderate-income rebate: $300 ($700 total per condenser)
Extra low-income rebate: $600 ($1,000 total per condenser)
