KILLINGTON—The town of Killington is pleased to announce the return of the internationally acclaimed Killington Stage Race for another year of exciting races. In previous years the Stage Race has drawn more than 1,000 participants and spectators from across the United States, as well as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom for three days of competitive cycling.
Popular with cyclists and spectators alike, the three-day Killington Stage Race is set to kick off Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Set in the heart of the Green Mountains, the race will include a circuit race, individual time trial, and Monday’s 60-mile “Queen Stage,” concluding with a brutal climb up East Mountain Road. The event will also feature a Sprint and King/Queen of the Mountains competition with custom leaders’ jerseys each day. These races are renowned for covering a variety of terrain and distances, offering a unique riding experience.
Having been considered one of the most prestigious road cycling events in the eastern U.S., the Killington Stage Race provides a huge annual boost to the local economy. The three day competitive cycling event was revived in 2010 by the Town after a ten-year hiatus.
Amy Morrison, events & marketing coordinator said, “Continuing to host world-class cycling events such as the Stage Race will help to secure our reputation as the premier cycling destination in New England. The Stage Race has been a great investment for the town, bringing upwards of 1,000 people to town each year. We look forward to continuing this tradition in 2016.”
The event has brought national attention to Killington and its wide, sweeping roads, challenging mountain climbs, and unrivaled New England scenery. In the years following its revival the Killington Stage Race has brought in more than $2 million to Town in estimated economic impact.
