Sunday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. — HUBBARDTON — On Sunday, Aug. 16, the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton will be commemorating Bennington Battle Day with a Third Sunday program at 2 p.m. Site interpreter Carl Fuller offers a talk and walk around the battlefield, revealing why and how the July 7, 1777, battle of Hubbardton was an important precursor to the American victory at Bennington 238 years ago on Aug. 16.
Following the walk will be showings of the short film, “Commemorating the Battle of Bennington with Howard Coffin,” edited by Jackie Marro for the Friends of the Bennington Battle Monument.
The Vermont State Historic Sites offer free admission on this day, a Vermont state holiday.
The Hubbardton Battlefield is the site of the only Revolutionary War battle fought in Vermont. The historic site is located on Monument Hill Road six miles off VT Route 30 in Hubbardton, Vt., or seven miles off exit 5 on US Route 4 in Castleton. Carefully follow the signs. The site is open Thursday through Sunday and Monday holidays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 12. Regular admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 15.
