Aug. 8-10 — BARNARD — BarnArts Summer Youth Theatre Institute 2014 is staging Willy Wonka, Jr, a youth version of the 1971 film, “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory,” Aug. 8-10 at Barnard Town Hall. The story is based on the 1964 book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl, which depicts the life of the eccentric Willy Wonka, a famed chocolatier who creates an elaborate plot in order to leave his factory to a good hearted child. Only five short years after the book hit the shelves, it was adapted into a screenplay and the classic “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” was born. The junior version includes the same, lively characters but with more songs to inspire a musical ambience and theatrical twist. The themes include optimism, the importance of gracious behavior, honesty, and class consciousness/conflict. Join the local cast for what is sure to be packed house. For more info, visit barnarts.org.
