Suspected retail thieves caught

RUTLAND—On Wednesday, Nov. 25, at about 5:30 p.m., a member of the Hannaford Supermarket loss prevention team contacted the Vermont State Police reporting a theft of merchandise from the store. The employee confronted the suspects in the parking lot as they were attempting to leave; however, the suspects refused to return into the store and fled in a vehicle. Troopers located the vehicle a short time later traveling west on US Route 4 in West Rutland and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The occupants/suspects were identified as Matthew Gibbud, age 23, and Shannon Rollins, age 21, both of Florence, Vt. The stolen merchandise was recovered from within the vehicle. Gibbud and Rollins were both issued citations ordering them to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division to answer to the charge of Retail Theft on Jan. 11.
