Rutland Meals Challenge aims to strike out hunger with bowling event

Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m. — RUTLAND — Bowlers will gather at the Rutland Bowlerama on Friday, June 3 to fight hunger at a fundraiser for the Rutland Meals Challenge. The 2nd annual Strike Out Hunger Benefit Bowl begins at 7 p.m. and costs $15 per person. The price includes 2 games, shoe rental, snacks and a donation to the Meals Challenge.

There will be prizes for the top youth and adult bowlers, red pin prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Bowlers are asked to collect donations from their coworkers, friends and neighbors for the Rutland Meals Challenge and bring them to the benefit bowl. There will be a prize for the bowler who brings in the most donations and an additional prize drawing for all bowlers who have collected donations.

The Rutland Meals Challenge is an annual food packaging event held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Rutland every January. Over 300 community volunteers assemble bulk ingredients into packaged meals that are donated to Rutland County food shelves and the Vermont Food Bank. Since its inception in 2013 the Rutland Meals Challenge has packaged and donated over 125,000 meals. The money raised from Strike Out Hunger Benefit Bowl will be used to buy bulk ingredients for the next Rutland Meals Challenge event in January 2017.
