Reflecting on dogs presented in art

Thursday, Feb. 11 at 4:30 p.m. — WOODSTOCK — The Norman Williams Public Library presents “Dogs in Art: A Panel Presentation” on Feb. 11 at 4:30 p.m. In ways both light-hearted and substantive, this panel presentation will explore the use of dogs in art, focusing on paintings created to depict stories in the Bible. The presenters will reflect on how artists used canines in works as varied as those of Brueghel and Rembrandt. The Rev. Norman MacLeod of St. James Episcopal Church will describe the Biblical stories. Dr. Philippa Richards, a veterinarian, will comment on the breeds represented and their various characteristics. Finnie Trimpi, an artist and educator, will discuss the ways in which artists use the figures of dogs as part of their compositional strategies.
