Okemo opens for 2016-2017 season

LUDLOW—Okemo Mountain Resort opened for the 2016/2017 winter season on Nov. 23 with top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on seven trails with three lifts operating, including the Sunburst Six high-speed bubble chair with retractable orange domes and heated seats for six passengers at a time.
“In spite of varying temperatures this year, our snowmakers have made the most of every opportunity and we opened with top-to-bottom skiing and riding for the fourth year running,” said Okemo Vice President and General Manager Bruce Schmidt. “This achievement is a testimony to the hard work of our operations team and to the Mueller family’s commitment to its loyal guests.”
Snowmaking started at Okemo on Nov. 5, but warm temperatures prevented Okemo’s snowmakers from working consecutive days and nights until a recent cold snap. Okemo has also received nearly two feet of natural snow since the arrival of winter. Snowmaking efforts are ongoing whenever the temperatures allow. Okemo anticipates having more terrain open in the days ahead and will add more trails to its open lineup as soon as conditions allow.
Several terrain park features have been installed on Nor’easter temporarily until Okemo’s nine terrain park trails can be covered with snow.
