KMS student Michelle Martin named U18 Slalom Champion

KMS takes seven top-10 finishes

Killington Mountain School's (KMS) Michelle Martin, a junior from Belmont, Mass., earned the title of Vermont State Slalom Champion, leading the U18 age class as Pico Mountain hosted the 2013 Vermont U18/21 Slalom Championship Sunday, Feb. 10. Heidi Robbins '07, now coaching for Pico, took the race win, while Kara Van Herwarde, a senior from Killington, took eighth and Alyce Ritchey and Jessie McNeill just missed the top 10.

On the men's side, Dylan Malone '12, of Needham, Mass., took the race win and championship title ahead of Shane Love '12, of North Conway, N.H.; Andrew Kimbell, of Woodstock, and Pete Spangler rounded out the top 10, while Julian Scherding '12 rounded out the top 15. In other alpine results, sophomores Piper Jenne, of Bridgewater, and Ryan Znamierowski, of Richmond, headed over to New Hampshire's Cranmore Mountain for a Macomber Cup race on Feb. 10. Jenne took fourth overall, first for U16 racers; while Znamierowski's first run was also the fourth-fastest of the day, he didn't finish the second run.

The U14 had its last Mid-Vermont Council race of the season on Highline this past Sunday, and Izzy Nolan led the team with a race win. Bobby Ryan took second for the boys, while Grace Dayton, Cassie Lieblein and Caroline Smith all skied their way into the girls' top 10. Dan Schwartz, Matthew Zackin and Ali Hulsebosch just missed the top 10, while Julia Martin and Julia Denny both had top-10 first runs but didn't finish the second run.
