LUDLOW - Morgan Kathan, a senior at Black River High School, recently appeared on TW3 ("That Was The Week That Was") aired on public access cable channels 8 and 20. Kathan explained the purpose and background of the project in answer to questions posed by TW3 host, Ralph Pace. She explained that she had made arrangements with a national manufacturer of coats to provide coats to students in the Ludlow and Mt. Holly Elementary Schools at a discounted cost.
When asked how the project would pay for the coats, Morgan noted that she would be appealing to local organizations and individuals to underwrite the costs associated with the project. The determination of who will needs the coats in the elementary schools will be based on information provided by the school administrations; the project, itself, will only be aware of the the total number of coats needed. In discussing how she developed the concept underlying "Kids in Coats," Morgan expressed her concerns grew from observing the youngsters during the Vermont winter wearing clothing that was not adequate for the outside temperature and her desire to ensure that they have coats that would keep them warm.
She has secured the support of a number of her classmates along with that of the school administration and faculty. Contributions to support the financial needs of "Kids in Coats" may be sent to: Ludlow Elementary School, ATTN: Kids in Coats, 45 Main Street, Ludlow, VT  05149 or by calling 802-228-8090.
