Killington announces 2013 summer events calendar

The Town of Killington has announced a full slate of events spanning the 2013 summer season, with something of interest for everyone. Beginning with the Killington Stage Race on Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day with The Killington Classic Motorcycle Rally, the robust lineup includes the return of several signature summer events including the free Cooler in the Mountains Concert Series. New to the schedule this summer is the Killington Half Marathon in June and The Biggest Loser RunWalk in July.

"From music fans, to families, to outdoor enthusiasts and competitors alike, everyone is going to find something to love about Killington this summer," says Amy Morrison, events coordinator for the Town of Killington. "Starting with the Stage Race, right through to Labor Day and the start of the Hay Festival, we're looking forward to a very busy season."

The summer season officially gets underway Memorial Day weekend when hundreds of cycling enthusiasts from throughout the Northeast converge on Killington for three days of professional bike racing. Following are the highlights of the summer schedule:

MAY 25 - 27:
The Killington Stage Race - One of cycling's top Eastern events, this race attracts over 600 competitive cyclists annually from across the country for three days of racing one of New England's most challenging courses.

JUNE 16:
Killington Half Marathon - Presented by 3C Race Productions on Father's Day weekend, the out and back course starts and finishes at Killington Resort, and will travel down Killington Road and through nearby wooded streets.

JUNE 22:
Long Trail Century Ride - This ride offers a course for every ability level, as riders may choose the 100-mile loop, 50-mile loop, or 20 mile loop. All courses start and finish together at Long Trail Brewery, located on Route 4. Post-ride festivities at the Brewery include a BBQ, live music and family entertainment, refreshments, and more.

This event was established through a partnership of Long Trail Brewery in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, Killington Resort, the Lookout Tavern, and many local businesses in the Killington region. Proceeds to benefit Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports.

JUNE 23 - 27:
Killington Junior Golf Tournament - Green Mountain National Golf Course welcomes 144 of the world's best junior golfers and their families in this four-day competitive tournament - an American Junior Golf Association official event.

Old-Fashioned Fourth of July - The Killington Fire Department hosts an all-day 4th of July party and fundraiser, featuring a parade of community groups and bands, a BBQ and potluck, a pool party and contest, nighttime fireworks and more on the River Road recreation fields.

JULY 11 - AUGUST 15:
River Road Summer Concert Series - Head to the Sherburne Memorial Library Thursday evenings for this exciting summer concert series.  Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks to relax in the cool summer nights, while enjoying a variety of free musical entertainment.

JULY 19 - 21:
Killington Wine Festival - Now in its 11th year, the Killington Wine Festival continues its tradition of bringing hundreds of fine wines from around the world to the Green Mountains in summer. The Killington Wine Festival is a production of the Killington Chamber of Commerce.

JULY 25:
Killington Chili Cook-Off - The 1st Annual Killington Chili Cook-Off is sure to produce the best tasting chili in town!  Join the competition and bring your finest chili to compete for the title of Best Chili in Killington, or stop by the Cook-Off to taste competitor's creations.

JULY 27 - 28:
The Biggest Loser Run/Walk - The Biggest Loser race series appeals to all fitness levels from the first-timer to the veteran athlete.  The goal is to challenge all participants in a fun, healthy non-intimidating environment.  Killington hosts a 15k and 5k, as well as a 1 mile fun run for children.  Two-day event includes expo and meet and greet with Biggest Loser contestants on day one, and a post-race concert/festival on day two.

JULY 27 - August 24:
Cooler in the Mountains Concert Series - The Saturday afternoon
free concert series returns with family-friendly outdoor concerts at Killington's Roaring Brook Umbrella Bars at K1 Base lodge, plus outdoor activities and games, a beer garden/BBQ, and a focus on area business promotions.

AUGUST 15 - 18:
The Vermont Challenge -  This cycling race tours southern and central Vermont over 3 or 4 days, bringing attention to local businesses, ski resorts, restaurants and farms in each local community.

AUGUST 29 - Sept. 2:
Killington Classic Motorcycle Rally - Vermont's premier motorcycle rally, presented by Americade.  Social events, a vendor village, bike & stunt shows, special events, live music, a 12-mile parade of bikes, and, of course, five days of the best touring in New England along the beautiful roads of Vermont.
