BOOB-a-PALOOZA bra bonanza

RUTLAND - This bra's for you . . . . The Pink Ribbon Butterfly Project (PRBP) is putting out an "out-of-the-ordinary" call for Vermont artists. Its "Creative Cups" Patrol (Board of Directors) is in search of decorated brassieres that will be displayed and auctioned off in the spring of 2012 at its annual bra bonanza event called, "For the Love of Tea & Re-Fashion Show."

The deadline is March 15, 2012 for these artistic submissions. The "Creative Cups" can be crafted by any professional, emerging, or hobbyist artist, from anywhere in the world.  Each should come with a title and short story: a dedication to someone dealing with breast cancer or a description of the artist's inspiration. Bras should be decorated to tell a story of hope, perseverance and support.

All of the creative cups bras will be publically displayed at Reincarnation Upscale Resale & Fabulous Finds during the month of April 2012. The public will be encouraged to visit Reincarnation and vote for their favorite creations. All votes cost $1 each. Awards will be given for first, second and third places. All proceeds collected will benefit the Pink Ribbon Butterfly Project, Ltd.

Additionally, the top 15 will be showcased at the annual For the Love of Tea Re-Fashion Show and made into postcards that will be available locally.

"It's a really kind of zany, light-hearted and fun way to celebrate those who have survived breast cancer and/or those who are currently dealing with breast cancer - laughter and joy are common threads with the work we do at the PRBP and at the same time, it can help us raise funds for our programs," said Traci Pena, founder of PRBP.

"For people living with cancer, it may seem strange to find laughter when facing such serious issues. Yet, laughter can be helpful in ways you might not have realized or imagined," Pena continued. "Laughter can help you feel better about yourself and the world around you. Laughter can be a natural diversion. When you laugh, no other thoughts can come to mind. Laughing can also induce physical changes in the body. And after laughing for only a few minutes, you may feel better for hours."

Submissions all must be size 36-C bra. They can be sent or dropped off with a $5 entry fee. Please remember to include a title and story. The Pink Ribbon Butterfly Project, is located on 86 River Street, Rutland, Vt. 05701. For more information, call, (877) 673-5508. All works of art become the property of the PRBP and will not be returned.
