The Friends of the Library in Ludlow are happy to announce that
our January book discussion selection is "The Soldier's Wife" by
Margaret Leroy. If you have ever asked yourself "what would I do?"
in a particular situation, this novel of passion and intensity will
be of great interest.
As WW II grows closer to the British channel island of Guernsey
just off the coast of France, Vivienne de la Mare knows that life
will change. Sacrifices will be many for herself, her two daughters
and her mother-in-law while her husband is away fighting. What she
does not foresee is that a relationship will develop between
herself and the German soldier living next door. How she deals with
that situation, the food and resource scarcity and restrictions
that grow more problematic with each passing week makes for a very
interesting and memorable novel.
The discussion will be held at the library on Main Street in
Ludlow on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. The books are available at
the library. Please use the rear entrance where there is available
parking, a ramp and an elevator.
