Killington Softball League: Clearly Moguls battles it out, only to fall

1) Vermonsters   7-0
2,3) TIE: Clearly Moguls 4-3 and McGrath's Irish Pub 4-3
4,5) TIE: Phat Italian 3-4 and Killington Meadows 3-4
6) Outback Heavy Hitters 0-7

Clearly Moguls is clearly on a losing streak, having dropped two straight games. One game was vastly different from the first and one was eerily similar. After beating Killington Meadows 10-1 to start the season, they couldn't get anything going this time around. Both teams were scoreless until the fourth inning when Alfie scored to give K.M. a 1-0 lead. They then added five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to widen their lead 6-0.

Facing their first ever shutout, Clearly Moguls finally put some hits and runs together to make it a game. Jared "J-rod" Hall put them on the board to start the rally and they made it 6-5 after the sixth. Unfortunately for them, their defense failed them in the seventh inning with a couple errors and they lost 8-5. Cold Beer K's went to K.M's Eric Warmbrand, Drew Ludvigsen,  Dave Gore and Chris Kenison and Clearly Moguls Brian "Brain" Peters.

C.M. is the only team all season to take the Vermonsters to a complete game. The result is the same (a loss) but they're the only team to give them some competition! C.M. jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind some power hitting from Scooter and Gordy but that barrage came to an end with a big "CBK" by Hunter. The Vermonsters had an answer and then some taking a 6-3 lead after the first inning. DJ Dave smacked his first double of the season and drove in a run to make it 6-4. The Vermonsters had another big inning in the fourth with four runs to widen their lead 10-4. Ronzoni had a nice double in the fifth driving in a run and scoring one to make it 10-6. Another two in the sixth made it 10-8 but DJ Dave stranded the bases loaded and Gordy went down swinging. Corey from the Vermonsters scored in the bottom of the sixth to give them a three run lead. Ronzoni scored in the seventh but 12-Pack Jack fouled out and Gordy flew out to end the game 11-9.

All the other games in the week were blowouts. The Vermonsterts crushed McGraths 15-1 behind the spectacular pitching from Rollie. McGraths rebounded with a 16-3 drubbing of the Phat Italian. McGraths scored nine runs before the Phat recorded an out. The Heavy Hitters suffered back-to-back blowouts from the Phat Italian and Killington Meadows. K.M. saw Ludvigsen smash a 3-run homerun in the second inning and Matt "Icy Cold" Beers had two inside-the-park homeruns. Speaking of beer, Kenison, Gore and Bill Mercier all suffered "CBK's."
