Community support for end of winter dance

Dear Editor,

On Sunday, April 14, members, friends and supporters of the ARC - Rutland Area welcomed in the end of winter by attending a great dance party sponsored by the Sunshine Fund and the Bomoseen Grange. There were about 60 happy, dancing, laughing people entertained.  Transportation was arranged for those that needed a ride from Rutland by ARC's Elderly and Disabled transportation grant. That afternoon the hall was filled with music, munchies and plenty of dancing. DJ's Lorianna and Bob Mason provided a delightful assortment of music which allowed everyone to participate, dancing or listening.

To all who contributed in any way towards making this event such a good-timing, socializing, success for people with developmental disabilities, their families and friends, know that it was enjoyed! Dancing makes for good physical health, socializing makes for good mental health, thank you all for this opportunity.

Seeing the community pull together to provide a wonderful event is always heartwarming. Unfortunately, there are times when people with disabilities have only a few people in their circle and don't have all the social connections an individual without disabilities naturally has. If you would like to support a neighbor or acquaintance with a disability simply ask them if you can help.  After sharing some time and your interests with them, you may find you have a true and loyal friend. The Self Advocates Becoming Empowered - Rutland and the Aktion Club Rutland County are getting ready for an active year, they could use some community support.  If you would like to support either of these groups reach their yearly goals call ARC at 775-1370.

We have also just finished up a month celebration, as March was Developmental Disabilities Month. Donations from bottle returns will help with our budget and to keep the services we provide going. ARC Rutland Area is looking forward to another great year of working with individuals and families with developmental disabilities.
