Teen accused of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Leaving the Scene of an Accident

CHITTENDEN - On Friday, Oct. 4, at approx. 10:09 p.m. Vermont State Police responded to the area of Mountain Top Road in Chittenden, Vt. for a reported underage drinking party in the woods.

When troopers arrived, they located a large gathering in a wooded area between Mountain Top Road and Dam Road. As Troopers approached the gathering on foot, several individual began to flee the area on foot and in vehicles.

One of those subjects, later identified as Cody J. Dion age 19 from Chittenden, was fleeing the scene in his vehicle.  When troopers ordered him to stop and exit his vehicle. Dion refused to comply and suddenly accelerated directly toward both troopers. Although neither trooper was seriously injured, the passenger side of Dion's vehicle struck one of the trooper's hands as he jumped off the narrow path to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Dion continued to accelerate up the narrow path and struck one of the parked cruisers causing minor damage to both vehicles. Dion then fled the area in his vehicle.

An investigation at the scene led Troopers to Dion's home address on Dam Road in Chittenden where he was taken into custody. State Police located Dion's vehicle on Wild Cat Road, where he had left it. Dion was transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks for processing, and later lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center, with bail set at $25,000. The court date was set for Oct. 7.
