Monday, Sept. 16, The Lookout Tavern sponsored its 10th annual
Lookout For Each Other Golf Tournament. The 5-person scramble was
held at Green Mountain National Golf Course, a beautiful course
with mountain views located just north of Killington on Route
Each year, the Lookout For Each Other tournament benefits a local
charity or organization. This year the tournament helped support
the Rutland Youth Athletic Scholarships. There are many kids who
cannot continue to play sports as the costs increase. Equipment,
travel expenses and fees can be too much for many families to
handle, and unfortunately their kids end up dropping out of
Phil and Joy Black, owners of The Lookout, have seen this happen
first hand. They have four children who are all active in sports.
Connor and Tristin Black play hockey (very well, by the way,) and
the equipment is very expensive. Phil Black has said he has seen so
many talented kids just fade into the background and have to give
up on sports because their parents cannot afford the equipment and
Phil and Joy Black feel very strongly that no child should be
kept from participating in sports because of financial reasons.
Sports are not only healthy physically, but help kids learn
lifelong skills, such as teamwork, cooperation, and communication.
Kids involved in extracurricular activities are also less likely to
get in trouble afterschool, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or take
drugs, studies have found.
Not only did this great event help raise money for a worthy
cause, all participants had a wonderful time, enjoying 18 holes of
golf, lunch on the course and dinner at The Lookout.
Local businesses sponsored holes, provided raffle prizes and
silent auction items. Thank you to everyone who participated. (This
author won a sweet pink kids bike, donated by The Basin, that my
seven year old daughter is going to love!)
