Five Rutland residents indicted in Vt. drug case

RUTLAND (AP) The Vermont office of the United States attorney says five Rutland residents have been charged with distributing heroin and cocaine.

Prosecutors announced the indictments Friday, a day after the defendants were arrested during raids in the Rutland area.

They all pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Judge John M. Conroy ordered that 30-year-old Terrence Chenault be held pending trial. The other defendants, 51-year-old Ernest Murray, 44-year-old Eric Dixon, 24-year-old Eric Harris and 25-year-old Morgaine Chuderski were ordered held pending detention hearings.

If convicted, all the defendants face a minimum of 20 years in prison. Murray could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison.

Attorneys for the five could not be immediately located.
