Teen pedestrian killed by train

RUTLAND - Sunday, June 9, at approximately 5:16 p.m. Ryan Lessard, age 19 of West Rutland, was walking on the railroad tracks in Center Rutland with his headphones in listening to music. A train traveling westbound came upon the victim. The operator of the train sounded his whistle and attempted to stop, but was unable to do so and struck the victim. The victim was killed immediately.
Lessard was transported to the Vermont Office of the Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. Detective Sergeant Albert Abdelnour, Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the Rutland Barracks is continuing to investigate the case.
