Killington Softball League: Homeruns and high scores lead to blowouts this week

STANDINGS
Vermonsters   5-0
Clearly Moguls 4-1
McGrath's Irish Pub 3-2
Phat Italian 2-3
Killington Meadows 1-4
Outback Heavy Hitters 0-5

The Phat Italian had an up and down week but they're just happy to get back in the win column since they're coming off a shutout loss. Killington Meadows gave them all they could handle in a see-saw battle. K.M. opened things up with a 3 run 1st inning and then shut down the Phat 1-2-3. The Phat returned the favor shutting them down 1-2-3 in the 2nd and scoring 2 off a rare Steve "Killer" Kent homerun. K.M. widened their lead 4-2 in the third but the Phat cut it to 1 again after Pete "Minny Ginny" Meluzzo scored. K.M. fell apart in the 4th and the Phat claimed their 1st lead of 7-4 after Chris "Lighter Now" Kenison walked in 3 runs. K.M. regrouped in the 5th and tied it 7-7 after firing up the base hit machine and also getting Matt "Ajax" Anderson to walk in a run.

They reclaimed their lead in the 6th after rookie Eric Warmbrand scored. In the bottom of the 6th, Coach Craig Brothers led off with a triple and eventually scored the tying run off of Jimbo Cassineri's nice looking sac fly. The winning run was scored when Dan Muller blasted a homerun. The Phat went back to their solid defense and shut down Killington Meadows 1-2-3 to end the game and survive with the slim 9-8 victory.

The Phat was not so lucky in their next game when they got destroyed 16-1 by Clearly Moguls. The win was powered by Brett "Gone Baby Gone" Regimbald who was a perfect 3 for 3 with 2 homeruns, 3 runs scored and 6 RBI. Clearly Moguls scored in every inning and sealed the mercy win in the 4th when rookie Jared "Jrod" Hall smacked a 2 run inside-the-park homerun. Hall was rumbling around the bases and stumbling around 3rd but safely got home, he just needed some oxygen after. The Phat's only bright spot was the web gem play of Cassineri at third, robbing Ronzoni and Neal "Phat No More" Giberti with leaping snags.

In a battle for 2nd place, Clearly Moguls doubled up McGrath's 16-8. This game had it all; hit parades, double plays and a lot of "Cold Beer" K's. C.M. started the game with a run by Brando Remick and a "CBK" by Judd. McGrath's started with 2 runs by Cliff and Jeremy "Big Papi" Prior but back-to-back "CBK's" from Dola and Joe Montemurro. McGrath's turned 2 double plays in the 1st 2 innings and had a big 4 run 2nd to take a commanding 6-1 lead. C.M. fired up the bats with 10 runs over the next 3 innings plus turned a double play of their own. Regimbald stayed perfect for the week going 4 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI. Will "The Thrill" Burdick was also 4 for 4 but with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. McGrath's couldn't get much else going but a couple runs in the 7th.

"CBK's" also went to McGrath's Cliff and Bus Bob and C.M's Scooter and Braunius.

The Heavy Hitters got back in the run column after getting blanked 58-0 in their last 2 games. 1st they fell to the defending champ Vermonsters 24-4. Later in the week they battled last season's runner-ups, McGrath's, and kept it close early. McGrath's was clinging to a 4-2 lead in the 2nd but eventually they fired up their bats to take the mercy win. The best defense of the game though goes to the Heavy Hitters who had an all Megan 4th inning when Mild Megan Poljacik got outs 1 & 2 and then Megan Mowery got out #3 with an amazing snow cone catch.
