Snowy conditions cause SUV with snowmobile trailer to crash into a tree

On March 19, at approximately 3:56 p.m., members of the Shrewsbury Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service and Vermont State Police responded to Cold River Road near Clarenbury Lane in the Town of Shrewsbury, Vt. for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

Investigation at the scene found 66-year-old John Diletto of Doylestown, PA was towing a loaded snowmobile trailer with his 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, north on Cold River Road down a hill when he lost control, crossed the center line of the roadway and crashed into a tree off the wrong side of the roadway.

John Diletto was not injured, however his passenger, 61-year-old Donna Diletto, suffered possible injuries to her back and neck. Donna was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center by Regional Ambulance Service.

Diletto's Trailblazer was totaled, and there was damage to his snowmobile trailer. His vehicle was towed from the scene. At the time of this crash the Rutland County area was experiencing a heavy snowfall event, and the roadway was snow covered.

John Diletto and his wife were both properly wearing seatbelts and the airbags in John's vehicle did deploy due to the nature of the crash.
