Residents encouraged to lock their doors

On Tuesday, March 12, at approx. 1:44 p.m., members of the Vermont State Police responded to the Hannaford's Supermarket located at the Green Mountain Plaza on US Route 7 in the Town of Rutland, Vt. for a report of a male subject who attempted to shoplift DVD's from the store.

While responding, the male reportedly began checking car doors on various cars in the parking lot of Hannaford's and Michael's Craft Store. Troopers were then advised the male had successfully gotten into 28-year-old Kimberly Davis's car which was parked in the parking lot of Aspen Dental. While Davis was coming out of her workplace, she caught the male in the act, and the male returned the items taken from her car to her. These items included chap stick and several lighters.

The male then fled behind Holiday Inn as Troopers arrived. After a short foot chase, the male was located hiding in a group of trees. He was taken into custody without  incident and identified as 21-year-old Brandon Luther of Rutland, Vt.

With the assistance of the Rutland County Sheriff's Department, the male was transported to the Rutland barracks for processing. Brandon was cited for the above theft, and placed at the Marble Valley Correctional Center on an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Residents are encouraged to lock the doors of their vehicles, and leave valuables out of plain sight.
