On March 4, at approximately 4:18 p.m., three area fire
departments responded to a reported residential structure fire at
186 Schoolhouse Hill Road in Clarendon, Vt.
Deputies from the Rutland County Sheriff's Department also
responded and were the first to arrive. Upon their arrival, they
found an unconscious male, later identified as Roy Jacobsen, age
68, outside of the residence. CPR was performed on Jacobsen until
paramedics from the Rutland Regional Ambulance Service arrived.
Jacobsen was then transported to the Rutland Regional Medical
Center where he succumbed to his injuries received from the
fire.
Roy Jacobsen owned the house with his wife, Marilyn.
The Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit was requested
for an origin and cause investigation. Investigators from the State
Police, as well as from the Vermont Division of Fire Safety
responded to the scene for the aforementioned examination.
The investigation revealed the fire to be accidental and not
considered suspicious. Anyone with information relating to the fire

Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, West Rutland Volunteer Fire
Department and Ira Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the
scene.
