Man dies from injuries sustained after house fire

On March 4, at approximately 4:18 p.m., three area fire departments responded to a reported residential structure fire at 186 Schoolhouse Hill Road in Clarendon, Vt.

Deputies from the Rutland County Sheriff's Department also responded and were the first to arrive. Upon their arrival, they found an unconscious male, later identified as Roy Jacobsen, age 68, outside of the residence. CPR was performed on Jacobsen until paramedics from the Rutland Regional Ambulance Service arrived. Jacobsen was then transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries received from the fire.

Roy Jacobsen owned the house with his wife, Marilyn.

The Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit was requested for an origin and cause investigation. Investigators from the State Police, as well as from the Vermont Division of Fire Safety responded to the scene for the aforementioned examination.

The investigation revealed the fire to be accidental and not considered suspicious. Anyone with information relating to the fire is encouraged to contact Det. Sgt. Sutton at the Rutland State Police barracks at (802) 773-9101.
