ED NOTE: Our veteran reporter/photographer, Thomas Bartlett,
managed to get to the east side of the Route 4 washout and send us
the following photos from a differnt perspective from those taken
from the "paved" side. Hopefully they remind you of the scope of
the problem, as well as a indication of why access there, and on
Meadowlake Drive into Chittenden is closed or restricted. There are
some VERY big construction vehicles needed to solve the problem,
and they need ALL the roadway ALL the time. Please be patient and
understanding.
You MUST avoid this area at all costs. Travel through the area
is ABSOLUTELY limited only to emergency vehicles. Alternate route
may be found by accessing the Vermont AOT website at
www.aot.state.vt.us and following the link to "Google Map of Irene

Stay safe.
