In 1895, Edward Broughton built a beautiful Queen Anne Victorian
home as a wedding present for his eldest daughter. It was a private
home for only a brief time, until the younger sister stole the
husband away. The house was sold to the academy across the street,
now known as Green Mountain College. Today, the current owners, Pam
& Rich Mikkelsen, present The Bentley House, Poultney's very
own spectacular Inn!
The Bentley House graces the historic Village of Poultney, in the
Lakes Region of Vermont's Rutland County. This residential
community founded in 1761 borders New York on the west and shares
beautiful Lake St. Catherine State Park and Golf Course with the
town of Wells on the south. Green Mountain College dominates the
village with its beautiful campus and contributes to the quaint
downtown Main Street lined with charming shops, friendly eateries,
Post Office, Historical Society and Library.
Come enjoy the ambience of this century-old charmer with its
stained glass windows, original woodwork and mantles, imposing
staircase, wrap-around porch and period antiques.
