Learn to cultivate shiitake mushrooms in Working Woodlands Workshop

Saturday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. — WOODSTOCK — April’s monthly Working Woodlands Workshop takes place on Saturday, April 4, featuring an exciting, hands-on workshop on shiitake mushroom cultivation. The workshop, held at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park’s Forest Center in Woodstock, will teach participants how to grow shiitake mushrooms on hardwood logs. Bill Stack, a forester and experienced shiitake mushroom grower who helps operate Cobb Hill Mushrooms in Hartland, Vt. will explain and demonstrate shiitake log cultivation techniques. Participants will be provided with an information guide and have a chance to inoculate logs with mushroom spawn. Enjoy delicious food samples made with log grown shiitakes, and take your inoculated log home for future harvesting.

The workshop runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants should bring lunch to accompany shiitake mushroom products; coffee and tea will be provided. Advance reservations are required (limited to 15 participants). A registration form is available online at www.nps.gov/mabi/planyourvisit/calendar.htm.
