Homicide suspect turns himself in

On Sunday, Aug. 23, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Hardwick Police Department responded to a residence on The Bend Road in Greensboro, Vt., to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Lou Ron Schneider, age 68, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Schneider was transported to Copley Hospital where he later died.

Subjects at the residence at the time of the shooting advised there was a dispute between the victim and Ryan Bacon, age 30. Bacon reportedly went outside the house and retrieved a rifle and shot Schneider who was standing on the porch.

Bacon then left in his vehicle, a dark blue/black GMC pickup truck. Police described Bacon as a white male, approximately 5’8” and 180 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.

On Aug. 24, Vermont State Police reported that Bacon had been taken into custody without incident after turning himself in at the Hardwick Police Department that evening. Bacon is currently being processed at the St. Johnsbury Barracks and will be lodged at Northeast Regional Correctional Facility under an arrest warrant that was issued Aug. 24. Bacon is charged with first degree murder and is being held without bail.

The Vermont state Police wish to thank the general public for their assistance with all leads and information that lead to the arrest of Bacon. The investigation into the death of Lou Ron Schneider continues.
