Drumming Skellies prepared for parade

RUTLAND—Drum Journeys of Earth (DJE) held a Halloween parade planning meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Rhythm Hall on the second floor of the Howe Center in Rutland. Drum Journeys of Earth and its students are widely known for leading the Rutland Halloween parade as the Drumming Skeletons.

Those hoping to join in on the fun are encouraged to do so—no prior experience necessary, the organizers said. “If you can walk, you can be part of this parade,” said Gary Meitrott, Drum Journeys of Earth owner, in a release. “For those with special skills, we specifically need carpenters, lighting pros, seamstresses, artists and more,” he added. “For the special ‘floor show’ this year, we need jugglers, magicians, rollerbladers/skaters, stilt walkers, firebreathers, unicyclists, puppeteers and more.”

DJE is dedicated to creating community through drumming. The recognition gained from this Halloween parade helps DJE provide classes and performances to bring music and the arts to citizens of Rutland County.
