Diabetes Self-Management Workshop offered at RRMC

Friday, March 6 — RUTLAND — Rutland Regional Medical Center is offering a free six-week diabetes self-management workshop at Templewood Court on Tremont Street in Rutland starting on Friday, March 6. The Diabetes Self-Management Workshop, a part of Vermont’s free Healthier Living Workshop series, is a free six-week program starting that provides practical ways to handle the challenges of diabetes. Additional classes will be held on March 13, 20 and 27 and April 3 and 10. Classes are held 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and pre-registration is required.

Over 29 million people in the United States have diabetes, equal to 9.3 percent of the total population. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Diabetes can be treated and managed by healthful eating, regular physical activity, and medications to lower blood glucose levels. Patient education and self-care practices also are important aspects of disease management that help people with diabetes stay healthy.

The six-week sessions help participants learn to set goals and break goals into small steps, week by week. All workshops cover nutrition, exercise, stress management, managing medicines, setting realistic goals, and planning for the future. While the workshop does not take the place of existing programs or treatment plans, it is helpful in giving participants the skills needed to coordinate and manage their health.

To register for this program or for more information, visit RRMC.org or call 802-773-9888 ext. 22.

Healthier Living Workshops are an initiative of the Community Health Department at Rutland Regional Medical Center. RRMC provides free services and educational programming as a key support for the continuing health of our community.
