CSJ weekly athletics roundup

College of St. Joseph men’s and women’s basketball teams hosted SUNY Delhi in non-conference games on Nov. 21.

Women’s

The Lady Saints defeated SUNY Delhi 91-27 in a fast-paced match-up on Saturday. The Saints were led by Mookie Kennedy, with 38 points and five assists. Regina Steele added 21 points and 10 rebounds of her own, while Arreonte Anderson, the Saints NCAA D-I transfer, contributed 16 points with six assists.

Kennedy leads the YSCC and USCAA in points per game, while Anderson and Steele hold the second and third spot in the YSCC, respectively. The three also hold the top three spots for field goal percentage in both the YSCC and USCAA.

The Broncos, who went into Saturday’s game 1-8, were unable to keep up with the Saints’ relentless momentum. The Broncos were led by Megan Moody with nine points.

The Lady Saints advance to 2-0 on the season.

Men’s

The men’s game was more evenly matched, with back-and-forth play throughout the first half and into the second. The Saints, with the help of Antonio Gordon’s unrelenting scoring, were able to secure an 88-75 win.

Gordon was able to secure 18 points in Saturday’s game, 16 of which were made in the second half. However, the team was led by powerhouse Kyle Houston, who landed 22 points and went 4-4 on free throws. Saints newcomer Jallah Tarver added 16 points for the team, while Josh McAfee added 10.

The Saints squad was up five points with just under 10 minutes left in the second half, before Gordon, Houston, Tarver and Anthony Paul put the full-court pressure on, scoring 33 points in under 10 minutes, including a dunk by Kareem Brown with just over a minute left in game play.

The Broncos were led by Lloyd Parkmond and Peter Fortes.  The Saints advance to 5-1 on the season.
