Castleton gives new twist to famous Shakespeare play

Nov. 11-15 — CASTLETON — The Castleton Theater Arts Department presents “Romeo and Juliet” beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Casella Theater.

Told by Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet is a story of two star-crossed lovers in the depths of forbidden love despite an ancient family feud.

The famous film and play won Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design and was nominated for Best Director and Best Picture, making it the last Shakespeare film to be nominated for Best Picture to date.

Director Harry McEnerny presents a new perspective on the centuries-old story, featuring gender-bending non-traditional casting, and creating a new experience for everyone in the audience.

Performances begin at 7 p.m. in the Casella Theater Wednesday, Nov. 11 through Saturday, Nov. 14 with an additional performance on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

Tickets for this performance are $12 for adults and $7 for Castleton faculty and staff, as well as seniors and children and are available at the Fine Arts Center Box Office.
