BROC celebrates 50 years helping fight “War on Poverty”

Wednesday, May 27 at 4:30 p.m. — RUTLAND — BROC-Community Action in Southwestern Vermont invites the public to celebrate its 50th birthday. On Wednesday, May 27 join the birthday bash from 4:30-7 p.m. at the facility located at 45 Union Street in Rutland. This is a free event and will include food, drinks, children’s activities and entertainment for all ages.

Since May 20, 1965, BROC has been helping fight President Johnson’s “War on Poverty” throughout Rutland and Bennington Counties. As an anti-poverty agency, they strive to move people out of crisis, into stabilization, reaching for self-sufficiency. The four main departments, Community Services & Outreach, Energy Conservation & Weatherization, Nutrition Education and Economic & Workforce Development serve over 10,000 individuals each year through a variety of programs and services; job skills training, energy savings education, hunger prevention and nutrition education to name a few. To learn more, visit www.broc.org.
