The “characters” of Ladies Night Out Women’s Chorus will perform an Advent concert at Weston’s Old Parish Church on Nov. 29.

Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. — WESTON — On Sunday Nov. 29 at 2 p.m., the highly regarded Rutland area vocal group, Ladies Night Out Women’s Chorus, will perform an Advent Concert at Old Parish Church in Weston.

The concert will feature a performance of Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols.” Britten was one of England’s most prominent 20th century composers and was the first to be recognized with a “Life Peerage.” “A Ceremony of Carols” was written in 1942, three years before Mr. Britten was to achieve worldwide acclaim for his opera, Peter Grimes.

Ladies Night Out performs under the direction of Lucy Allen Tenenbaum and will be accompanied by Vermont Symphony Orchestra harpist Heidi Soons. Ms. Soons will perform a solo intermezzo and the concert will conclude with a collection of “Carols to Celebrate Mary.”

Ladies’ Night Out Women’s Chorus started out in 1987 as a group of women getting together to sing at nursing homes at Christmas. They evolved into a bi-yearly performance group with an ever-changing cast of characters. Director Lucy Tenenbaum, a founding member, started leading LNO in 2000. Rehearsals begin in September and January each year. After 10 or 14 weeks, it’s Advent or May and they are ready to perform their challenging program. The Ladies still gath er at Christmas to sing around town at independent living and nursing homes.

This concert is the latest presentation in the Hearts & Voices Performance Series, established in 2009 in memory of G. Frederick (Fritz) Zeller, a longtime educator, community leader and a pillar of Old Parish Church. Revenues from the performances are donated to benefit deserving area non-profit organizations. In 2015, patrons are asked to donate $10 each which will benefit three neighborhood food pantries that help provide sustenance to those in need, at a time when state subsidies have been cut back.

Old Parish Church is located on Route 100, Weston. For info, visit www.oldparishchurch.org or call 802-824-5486.
