12th annual Lookout for Each Other Golf Tournament raises money for Adaptive Ski and Sports and the Rutland Community Cupboard

Monday, Sept. 14 — KILLINGTON — The Lookout Tavern will host their 12th Annual Lookout for Each Other Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 14 at Green Mountain National Golf Course in an effort to raise money for two local charities: Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports and the Rutland Community Cupboard.

The annual event has raised more than $150,000 since its inception and donated raised funds to a variety of local needs including families who have lost a parent, cancer victims, area youth organizations, women’s clubs, and more. Last year, the event raised nearly $17,000.

“Living and working in Vermont is about being a part of the community and that’s what is important to us,” said Phil Black, founder of the tournament and co-owner of the Lookout Tavern. “Coming together to support local charities is a way for everyone to give back to their community and we’re glad that we’ve been able to raise and then donate these funds over the years.”

Part of the money raised from the tournament will be donated to Vermont Adaptive, which provides sports and recreational programs to people with disabilities, to purchase an adaptive mountain bike and enclosed trailer to add to its fleet of adaptive equipment. Vermont Adaptive received a grant from the Veterans Administration to purchase three different types of adaptive mountain bikes, but in order to accommodate all types of physical disabilities, a fourth bike is needed as well. Black hopes the tournament will raise at least $8,000 or more toward the necessary $11,000 for the additional bike and trailer.

In addition, monies raised also will be donated to the Rutland Community Cupboard, a local area food shelf that relies 100 percent on donations for its operating budget. Mark Scott, from the Rutland Community Cupboard, has been a player in the tournament for many years, and Black chose this organization as the second beneficiary of the tournament this year.

The tournament sells out every year, and players are encouraged to register early, as space is limited. The cost is $100 per person and includes golf at Green Mountain National with lunch and dinner at the Lookout Tavern.
